My Mom's Book

My mom has always been a writer.  If you ever needed a poem written for anything Mom was the one to ask.  If the Ward needed a play, program or history written Mom was the one to go to.  These are not all of her writings, unfortunately.  The book contains the writings that we found in her files.  Through these writings she shares her talent, her love of family and her faith.  I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed compiling the book.

To purchase a copy of her book click on the orange Lulu button on the side of the page.  It currently costs $15.94 plus shipping.

My Dad's book is finally done and ready for purchase.  For the few of you that haven't seen pieces of the work in progress I will tell you the story.  Last February I discovered about 150 letters that my Dad had written home to his family while he was serving in World War II.  Each letter was like a little treasure box.  I never knew what I would find.  Grandma Davis had done a fantastic job of saving everything that he sent home.  I found pictures, coins, leaves, comics, etc in addition to the wonderful letters he wrote.  I also found his diary he kept during the years he served.  After showing one of the drafts to his brothers they asked me if various stories were included.  Dad had not written most of these stories in his letters home.  I did not know how I would be able to recreate these stories in a way that would do justice to Dad's story-telling skills.  Fortunately Dad was able to help from the other side.  I had a prompting to look in a book that contained an interview that the University of Utah had done with Dad on the creation of the State Library.  As I started to read the interview I discovered that it contained about 40 pages of my Dad's war stories.  Every one of the stories that my Uncles had mentioned were there.  I felt Dad's help at several other points as I tried to figure out where undated letters and pictures should be put in the completed project.  I also found about 20 letters from his mission.  They are included in this book as well as an interview done by BYU on his mission experience.  I have loved every minute of this project.

A huge thank you goes out to all my helpers- Dad for being a wonderful and prolific letter writer, Mom for gifting me with a love of family history, Eileen Davis for her wonderful editing job, Matt Hadley for his help with editing some of the comics,  Susan Bradford for digging through hundreds of pictures to find Dad's Navy and mission pictures that help tell his story,  Jeff Hanson for scanning some of the pictures,  Amy Fisher for being a lifesaver and putting page numbers on each page (a much more complicated job than you would think.)  Grant Davis for taking pictures of some of Dad's artifacts to include in the book and last but not least my husband, Greg,
for putting up with my obsession with this project, making countless trial copies, making suggestions and encouraging me.

The book is hardcover and is 219 pages long.  It sells for 24.99 plus shipping.  It takes 6-8 business days to print plus shipping time.
